Advance Wars, known as Game Boy Wars Advance 1 in Japan, is a turn-based strategy game and the first game in the Advance Wars series released outside Japan. A remake produced by WayForward will be part of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, a compilation for Nintendo Switch that also includes a remake of Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising.
The game takes place in Cosmo Land, a region of Wars World split between four main countries:
Orange Star,Blue Moon,Green Earth,Yellow Comet.
A period of relative peace between these countries is interrupted by the meddling of a mysterious new army: Black Hole. The story of the Advance Wars campaign begins with the nation of Orange Star in a war against the neighboring country of Blue Moon. As a tactical adviser for Orange Star, the player follows the war effort through all four countries over the course of the game. In the end, it is revealed that the enigmatic Black Hole Army, under the command of Sturm, is the true enemy. Using a CO doppelganger clone of Andy, Sturm stirred up war among the four countries in order to confuse, weaken, and eventually conquer them. Once this is revealed, the four countries unite to drive Black Hole out of their land. Along the way the player gains access to three COs; Andy, Max and Sami. In the final battle of the game the allied COs can vary, based on certain choices made and battles fought.
This turn-based strategy game hails back to a classic Japanese strategy game titled Famicom Wars. Advance Wars pits players against very computer AI in a number of battles involving submarines, warships, infantry, tanks, helicopters, and other weapons. During the maps, players may capture buildings to increase financial resources and repair damaged units. During combat, two units go head to head with the results determined by how the two stack up against each other, terrain conditions, and other factors.
